Hemelvaart diens
You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you, and you will be able to be my witnesses to the ends of the earth… (Dis waaroor hemelvaart gaan – die Gees wat in Jesus se plek gestuur word om ons aan te moedig en te bemagtig om getuies te wees.)
Acts 1: 8
“But you will receive power (dunamai: ability to perform, having ability, force that drives, energy) when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses (martus: eye- or ear witness) in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”
The Message: “And when the Holy Spirit comes on you, you will be able to be my witnesses…”
Spirit in the Old Testament
- “The Spirit of the LORD came on him”…
- This always prompted action…
- The Lord was visible through the action…
Ruach Yahweh
- From the primitive root: “To blow…”
- breath, wind, spirit
- Meaning: “cause to perceive, understand”
- courage, heart, inspired, mind, motive, strength, thoughts, trustworthy
Spirit in the New Testament
John 14: 16 - 18
16 I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate (Message: another Friend) to help you and be with you forever— 17 the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you. 18 I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you.
John 14: 26 - 27
…26 the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you. 27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.

Voorspraak: Παράκλητος (parakletos)
- Kom van para-kaleo – “call to one’s side”
- Para – “from close beside”
- Kaleo – “make a call”; legal advisor: make the right judgement call; give evidence that stands up in court; advocate
“…naamlik die Gees van die waarheid…”
Gees van die waarheid: πνεῦμα (pneuma)
- Kom van pneo: “current of air”
- wind, spirit, breath
- Die Gees van die waarheid aangaande Jesus
“Die wêreld kan Hom nie ontvang nie, omdat hulle Hom nie sien en Hom nie ken nie.”
Sien: Θεωρέω (theóreo)
- gaze on for the purpose of discerning
- “Theóreo” is the root of “theatre”, where people concentrate on the meaning of a performance
Ken: Γινώσκω (Ginosko)

By julle bly: μένω (menei)
- to stay (in a given place, state or relation)
- to abide, continue, dwell, endure, be present or remain

Alles leer: διδάσκω (didasko)
- literally means "cause to learn"; instruct, impart knowledge
Herinner: ὑπομιμνῄσκω (hupomimnéskó)
- to quietly cause (one) to remember
- to remember because prompted

Vrede: εἰρήνη (eiréné)
- peace of mind, quietness; rest
- from eirō: to join, tie together into a whole
- wholeness, i.e. when all essential parts are joined together
